What is a fire risk assessment?

This assessment evaluates factors that determine the hazard from a fire, as well as the consequences if it were to occur, including information about prevention.
A fire risk assessment is required by law, and you should keep a written record of your assessment if your business employs five or more people.
There are two methods, qualitative and quantitative, that can be used for your risk assessment, as well as semi quantitative point schemes.

What Is Involved In A Fire Risk Assessment?

Assessments should be reviewed regularly or if there is any reason to suspect the current fire risk assessment has became invalid. Reasons an assessment could become invalid include an increase in the amount of people in the building, or changes to floor layouts, or after a recent fire.

Professional fire risk reports will evaluate the current precautions, and include detail on recommended additional precautions. Also written in the report are recommendations regarding when you should review your risk assessment. It is important that you read and understand the advice included within the report as it is a legal document.
